Faro Airport to Vilamoura: easy distance, awkward connections
Vilamoura sits between Albufeira and Quarteira on the Algarve coast, and it's genuinely close to Faro — about 20km, which is usually 25 to 30 minutes on the A22 and the EN125. On distance alone, it should be one of the easier transfers in this guide.
Public transport is where it gets less convenient. There's no direct bus from the airport into Vilamoura itself — most routes mean getting into Faro or over to Quarteira first and changing, which eats into the time advantage the short distance should give you.
Vilamoura also skews toward a slightly different crowd than Albufeira down the coast — marina moorings, golf courses, more families and couples than the nightlife crowd — and that often means golf bags, prams or more luggage than a quick bus change comfortably handles.
Taxis cover the distance quickly and without any changes, and given how short the run is, the fare doesn't punish you the way a longer Algarve route would.
Rule of thumb: light bags and happy to figure out a bus change, it's doable and cheap. Golf clubs, kids, or a marina-side villa that's a walk from the main road, a pre-booked transfer is a small extra cost for a much more direct trip.
