How airport transfer prices are worked out
Private transfer fares are driven mainly by distance, vehicle size and how busy the route is. Longer mountain routes cost more per kilometre than short city runs, and larger groups need a minivan rather than a saloon, which raises the price.
Prices also move with the season. Ski routes into the Alps peak over Christmas and February half-term, while Mediterranean airports are most expensive in July and August. Booking a few weeks ahead usually beats booking on arrival.
